We’ve got some beautiful winter weather ahead on Sawyer Camp Trail! Major construction work next to the trail has wrapped up until late January. Vehicles on the trail have become a rare sight this month!
The trail is now open every day from sunrise to sunset. Some work may occur in early January to prepare for winter storms and this may require short trail closures, however we don’t expect any lengthy disruptions.
In late January, a portion of the water pipeline that runs adjacent to the trail will be “shut down” and emptied of water to allow for seismic upgrades. The trail will need to be closed for 2 or 3 days in order to stage equipment needed for these important water system improvements.
Some construction work will take place in the Peninsula Watershed during the week between Christmas and New Year’s. The drill rig that is set up on the shoulder on Crystal Springs Road near Polhemus will be present through the end of the December. A small crew is working on the existing water pipeline.
In the Lower Crystal Springs Reservoir, demolition of the Crystal Springs outlet tower (see photo) continues next week and into January. This work is part of the seismic upgrade of the transmission system that carries water from the reservoir to the Harry Tracy Water Treatment Plant in Millbrae.
